Idag har en ny film om Jesus premiär. Nicolas Cage är med, dock inte som religionsgrundaren själv utan som hans pappa, Josef, vilken bl a har att brottas med sitt märkliga faderskap.

Recensionerna så här långt är överlag avvaktande eller svala. Den säljs in som en skräckfilm, men är visst mer än så. Recensenten för Metro UK, Tori Brazier, ger den 4 av 5. Hon reflekterar kring hur negativa omdömen kommit också från många som ännu inte hunnit – eller ens kommer att vilja – se den (ett öde som f ö drabbat andra filmatiseringar om samma ämne, t ex Life of Brian):

This is not something that some people will be willing to accept however, if the sheer number of comments and review bombs accusing the not-yet-released film of being ‘blasphemous’ are anything to go by.

It is of course a sensitive topic, but The Carpenter’s Son’s priority is clearly to provoke thought over the early life of one of the world’s most important religious figures rather than baiting Christians with a disrespectful take (or attack) on their religion.

It’s actually one of the most original and intriguing films I’ve seen this year…
