Under några dagar har kommit många tecken på att något är på väg att svänga i förhållande till Donald Trump. Kommentatorer från höger och vänster har skärpt tonen, ställer krav på presidentens omgivning att agera. Ett klipp ur högen, som sammanfattar. Detta är i och för sig från CAIR, en amerikansk organisation som tillvaratar muslimers intressen, men analysen, farhågorna och tonen är likartad på många håll
President Trump’s deranged mocking of Islam and his threats to attack civilian infrastructure in Iran are reckless, dangerous, and indicative of a mindset that shows indifference to human life and contempt for religious beliefs.
These statements are not made in a vacuum. They follow a long pattern of anti-Muslim rhetoric and policies that have dehumanized Muslims at home and abroad. The casual use of ‘Praise be to Allah’ in the context of violent threats reflects a disturbing willingness to weaponize religious language while simultaneously denigrating Islam and its followers.
Congress must not remain on vacation while the President openly promises to commit war crimes that could trigger even more regional and global conflict. Lawmakers have a duty to reconvene and to reassert their authority over matters of war and peace, and to ensure that no president can unilaterally drag our nation into war.

Nu kräver flera amerikanska politiker att Trumps kabinett ska åberopa det 25:e tillägget i konstitutionen, rapporterar Newsweek. Tillägget kan aktiveras om presidenten inte anses göra sina plikter. Vid ett sådant scenario skulle Trump tvingas avgå och vicepresident JD Vance skulle ta över presidentposten.
– Om jag satt i Trumps kabinett skulle jag tillbringa påsken med att ringa konstitutionella jurister angående det 25:e tillägget. Han har redan dödat tusental och kommer att döda tusentals till, framhåller den demokratiske senatorn Chris Murphy enligt Newsweek.
John Harwood, tidigare Vita huset-korrespondent för CNN, delar bedömningen.

Härom dagen såg man rubriker om en förestående statskupp i Ryssland. Analytiker som förutser att vid en given tidpunkt när Putin & Co råkat ut för en större motgång i kriget mot Ukraina kommer man att agera.
Blott anti-propaganda, önsketänkande. Eller så är det faktiskt något i det globala samfundet som är annorlunda idag. En tid, ganska länge, kan vi fortfarande svepas med av auktoritär retorik och löften om den egna nationens suveränitet och överhöghet. Vara beredda att stötta vår starke man.
Men att efter en tid något slags nykterhet ändå kickar in, som efter ett rus. Att det tippar tillbaka. Som att vakna ur en dröm.
Vi människor är nog rättså lika som vi alltid varit. Ingen större skillnad på hundra år, eller tvåhundra. Men att olika faktorer medverkar till att det trots allt är svårare att ånga på som envåldshärskare idag.

What happened to us? This is not the country we were supposed to be.
If Trump is actually going to give the order for massive war crimes, for destruction of civilian infrastructure, power plants, bridges, which will, among other things, lead to a lot of deaths in Iran, will the military obey it? A year ago, I would have said no.
But what we do know now is that, first of all, there turns out to be at least a significant MAGA component inside the officer corps. And we know that Pete Hexeth has been systematically corrupting, dismantling the military over the past 14 months. Generals who raise ethical concerns have been fired. Officers who even just want to be intelligent about warfare. and not believe that it’s all about warrior ethos and lethality have been fired, so it’s quite possible that there’s a quorum of officers who will follow instructions to commit war crimes.
You can get even more pessimistic. Tim Snyder has been arguing that we’re basically in preparation for a coup, that somehow or other the war will be a pretense and arguing that this insane expansion of military spending in the latest Trump budget is a bribe to the military.
I hope he’s wrong. But in any case, my God, if Trump gets his way, and if he doesn’t chicken out —and I think TACO is greatly overrated, I think all too often Trump actually does follow through on his insane stuff.
It’s entirely possible that basically by this time Tuesday, America will have established itself as one of the world’s great villains. I don’t want to be here, but, you know, be warned. This is happening. This is real.
It’s the most astonishing, awful thing that I’ve ever seen, and we’ve all seen a lot of awful things. Take care, I guess.
