Man får tycka och tänka vad man vill om fenomenet eller föreställningen att folk reinkarnerar. De flesta i vår kultursfär kan säkert finna båda uppfattningarna i tvisten om den nästkommande Dalai Lama lika tossiga.
Det har spekulerats i om Dalai Lama skulle låta succesionen av lamor ta slut med honom. Att upplösa denna uråldriga tradition. Men härom dagen höll han ett tal där han förklarade att man efter hans död kommer behöva ge sig ut och finna den/hans nya inkarnation.
The Dalai Lama said Wednesday that the ancient Tibetan Buddhist institution he leads will live on after he dies, putting an end to speculation that he would be the last person to hold the role as he plans to reincarnate.

Att hitta en ny lama är inget som görs lättvindligt. Hur det gick till när Dalai Lama själv hittades som liten pojke är beskrivet t ex här:

Att Kina, fastän uttalat ateistiskt, vill påverka var en ny lama ska födas, har det talats om tidigare. Här är en text från Tibet Network (5 oktober 2022) som tolkar då aktuella uttalanden och texter från den kinesiska regimen.
Given the Chinese government’s atheist stance it may have been expected that Beijing would attempt to end the institution of the Dalai Lama entirely. However, they have instead developed a strategy to exert control over the Tibetan Buddhist reincarnation system including the insistence that it is the prerogative of China to recognise the next Dalai Lama.
För den med någon öppenhet för eller åtminstone ett hum om reinkarnationstanken är Kinas planer så klart löjeväckande. En mäktig och totalitär regim kan måhända flytta en stad eller ändra en flods sträckning, men knappast påverka var eller när någon ska återfödas.
